This version of the fighting classic is powered by the SEGA Lindbergh hardware system. The game features returning favourites and 2 new fighters Eileen from china - a master of kou-ken (monkey style) martial arts, and El Blaze - a Lucha Libre styled fighter (Mexican wrestling).
Returning fighters include Akira, Pai Chan, Lau Chan, Jacky Bryant, Sarah Bryant, Jeffery, Shun, Lion Rafale, Kage-Maru, Wolf, Aoi, Lei-Fei, Vanessa Lewis, Brad Burns, Goh Hinogami and Dural.
Virtua Fighter 5 allows for more customisation and player interaction than ever. The game can be brought as a kit or in the Lindbergh universal cabinet. To turn this cabinet and game into a giant spectacular, it can be link to giant panel screen (VF.TV), that displays the action in high definition glory to the public. It can also be linked to a terminal that is like a mini computerised shop, that allows players to customise their fighter, with new clothing & accessories.
As is the standard with customising options in fighting games. Players buy a memory card (players card) which stores their preferences and current fighter. As the player fights he earns points, these points can be exchanged for new outfits and accessories for their fighter.
