Raiden 3 marks the return of the Raiden series after a hiatus of over 11 years following the release of Raiden DX. Raiden 3 is set in a different universe from all previous Raiden games. There are 7 levels, including some set on earth and some set in space.
Players once again take control of the Raiden Supersonic Attack Fighter. Main shot types include Vulcan, which shoots streams of bullets in a variety of different directions; Laser, a continuous forward-facing blue laser; and the Proton Laser, a green plasma laser which moves with any lateral ship movement.
There is also a special move when 2 players are playing together co-operatively, with a beam attack that is available when players line-up one in front of the other.
