The game is part of the popular Street Fighter franchise, and this particular edition was released back in December 2011 by Capcom. Minor tweaks and adjustments were made to nearly every characters, while other characters such as Gouken, Yun, Yang, Evil Ryu, Fei Long and Hakan have been significantly changed in order to address global balance issues, like with the EX moves.

Yun and Yang were introduced in the 2010 release, which this game is based on, as playable characters, and Evil Ryu was brought into the 2010 release as a secret boss, and have carried on into the 2012 edition. The game also features modes from the original game including "Arcade", "Versus", "Training", and "Trials".
